Situated in the heart of New Orleans, just steps away from the storied St. Charles Avenue Streetcar line, a boutique hotel at 1620 Martin Luther King Boulevard stands as a testament to careful and community-driven historic renovation. For this project, the team expertly navigated the complexities of variance process, zoning adjustments, and building standards to accommodate new code for appropriate parking relative to the hotel’s needs with the community’s support. While balancing the many elements of historic property restoration is never simple, this property involved special considerations due to its prime location in a historic cultural district. We worked with the State Historic Preservation Officers (SHPO) and the US National Park Service to develop plans sensitive to the neighborhood’s history that preserve and amplify the historical characteristics while incorporating a design that’s thoughtful, contemporary, and vibrant. The result is an eclectic, soulful, family-friendly destination that captures the timeless charm of New Orleans.
